Vehicle Wrap Maintenance: What to Do and What to Avoid

TIPS AND TRICKS

Vehicle lettering is an investment that helps keep your business visible every day. Proper maintenance helps preserve its appearance and extend its lifespan. Here are some practical tips from the experts at Turbo Images:

1. Wash the Vehicle Regularly

Dirt, insects and other road debris can affect the appearance of vinyl over time, as can bird droppings, tree sap and certain chemicals. It is recommended to clean these contaminants as soon as possible.

For optimal maintenance:

  • Always pre-rinse the vehicle before washing to remove any debris that could scratch the surface.
  • Use a mild soap and water.
  • Use a non-abrasive cloth or sponge.
  • Avoid using brushes that could damage the vinyl and its protective laminate.
  • Rinse thoroughly after washing.

2. Be Careful with Car Washes and Pressure Washers
If you use an automatic car wash, opt for touchless systems. When using a pressure washer, maintain a minimum safe distance of 24 inches (60 cm) from the vehicle and avoid directing the spray directly at seams or areas where the vinyl ends.

3. Protect It from the Elements
Whenever possible, park your vehicle in a location protected from direct sunlight and harsh weather conditions. If you notice a corner of the lettering starting to lift or any damage to the graphics, prompt attention can often help prevent the need for more extensive repairs.

With these simple care tips, your vehicle lettering will maintain its professional appearance for many years to come.
