A PHILANTHROPIC PROJECT IN A DONATED TRANSIT AGENCY BUS SERVING FREE GROCERIES TO THOSE MOST IN NEED

Turbo is proud to serve Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) which provides more than 12.1 million rides per year, operating 40 bus and trolley routes with a fleet of 210 vehicles.

PSTA strives to be a driving force for social, environmental, and economic vitality in the community through innovation and partnership. To express these themes through Fleet Graphics, we have completed bus wraps that include Martin Luther King, Express Service, Pride Month, all-electric autonomous shuttles, Cleaner Air (new zero-emissions electric buses), SHINE® St. Petersburg Mural Festival and others.

A PSTA city bus was donated to Reach St. Pete, a non-profit that works to prevent and alleviate homelessness, low income, and at-risk situations. This bus was converted into a “Pop-Up Pantry” to bring free groceries to five locations across Pinellas County. This philanthropic initiative aims to alleviate the food insecurity for over 135,000 residents of the County.

We were delighted that Turbo was recommended by PSTA to wrap the bus. The graphic design was provided by the PSTA Marketing team led by Amanda Baird. Turbo provided the printing and installation service. We are very grateful to our partner ESCOT BUS LINES for providing installation premises in nearby Largo, FL.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN?

Reach St. Pete’s efforts are made sustainable through community partnerships, grants, private donors, and extraordinary community involvement. This particular community initiative was supported by PSTA, Leadership PSTA Class of 2021, The Pop-Up Pantry Committee, Molina Cares, Corporate sponsors, Reach St. Pete Board, volunteers, and staff.

“My hope for this initiative is that anyone who ever comes across a financial difficulty to where they have to question if they can afford to eat, that we meet their needs in an innovative and dignifying manner,” said Reach St. Pete President, Alexia Morrison. “There should be no shame in asking for help and we hope The Pop-Up Pantry makes it easier to do so.”

“At PSTA we continuously go above and beyond making a difference in our community. As a transportation agency, we pride ourselves by getting to know our riders and take them where they need to be,” said Brad Miller, Chief Executive Officer of PSTA. “We often hear and see their struggles firsthand and now with this great partnership with Reach St. Pete, this Pop-Up Pantry will be able to bring them a bus load of supplies that they may need.”

“Time, distance and transportation are all barriers to accessing nutritious food, particularly in areas known as food deserts,” said Mike Jones, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Florida. “We are proud to support this effort because it will directly help connect more Floridians to healthier outcomes.”
